Autumn Term 1 2024:
'Know Your Place - Bolsover'
This term our topic is 'Know your place- Bolsover'. We will be looking at:
- The continents and oceans of the world.
- Maps and their symbols.
- Using maps and compass points.
- Naming the capital cities of the four countries.
- Identifying Bolsover on a map and looking at the human and physical features.
- Creating a fact-file using our information.
- Experimenting with lines to create different effects.
- Beginning to use Microsoft Word.

We are learning fundamental movement skills. During all PE lessons, the children will be working on their personal and social skills.
The unit gives us a chance to develop footwork skills, one-legged balances and seated balances.
PSHE
During PSHE lessons, the children will be learning how to explore different emotions and how to develop ways to deal with these to different situations.
We hope that they will be able to apply these on the playground.
RE
This half term, we will be learning who is a Christian and what they believe. This links to some of our British Values especially tolerance.
French
We are learning how to meet and greet each other in french and beginning to practise simple conversations with others.
Music
In music, we are learning how to find the beat to different music, listening to a range of genres and learning and performing songs with actions. The children also use xylophones and play them to music.
Autumn Term 2 2024:
'Improve Our World & Guy Fawkes'
This term our topic is 'Improve Our World!'
We will be learning about:
- Waste and how we can improve and help the environment.
- Litter and air pollution.
- Different sewing skills and creating an earth using these.
- Evaluating our learning both verbally and written.
- Gymnastics.
- Re-telling a story using adverbial phrases.
As well as learning about this topic, we will also learn about Guy Fawkes and his plot to destroy the houses of parliament!
Maths
In maths, we are learning Place Value. This includes:
- Adding ten more and ten less.
- Add and subtract tens.
- Adding and subtracting two 2-digit numbers (not exchanging).
- Adding and subtracting two 2-digit numbers (exchanging using the column method).
- Missing number problems.

In Computing, we are learning how to use Scratch Junior where the children will be learning about coding.

Our topic this term is 'Who makes the rules?'

- Comparing both the queens and looking at their similarities and differences.

This term our topic is 'Explorers: Christopher Columbus.'
We will be looking at:
- Who Christopher Columbus is and what he did.
- Create a fact-file about him using the correct terminology.
- Comparing old and new ships.
- The different routes Christopher Columbus took and why he did this.
- Understanding tones and tints and using these skills to paint backgrounds relating to Christopher Columbus.
We will also be looking at staying safe on the internet and discussing why this is important.
